Embracing Parenthood: Growth, Surprises, and Finding Balance

As new parents, we often find ourselves navigating uncharted territory, adjusting our routines, and seeking support from others who understand this unique experience. That’s why we talked with some members of our Parentboard who embraced their new roles and discovered the beauty of parenthood. From finding balance to bonding with their little ones, their insights and experiences shed light on the joys and trials of this incredible journey.

Surprises and Growth

Parenthood is full of surprises, and the moments that caught these parents off guard brought immense growth and learning. Adjusting to parenthood's changes can be a natural process, allowing parents to adapt to the new circumstances and find their rhythm. The overwhelming responsibility of being needed 24/7 and putting their baby's needs first was a common surprise.

"I love it. More than I expected to be frank. I love taking care of that little wonder, and I never expected to love or be loved that much by such a little person. I still struggle making time for me, but I love every second of being a mum." - Louise

"It is overwhelming to suddenly be responsible for another human being. There is nothing quite like it. This responsibility is an ongoing process that never ends." - Jessica

"You put the baby's needs over yours, immediately stopping eating, drinking, sleeping, once your baby starts to cry. Putting make-up on in the morning is not in my routine anymore. I still struggle when I see the new 'me' in the mirror, but I've had to find new routines for the day." - Özge

Finding Balance

Adjusting routines, hobbies, and social lives can challenge new parents. Some struggled to find time for themselves and maintain friendships amidst the demands of parenting. Balancing personal needs with those of their baby required patience and adaptability.

"None of my friends have babies, so not all understand how much some things mean. It's hard finding time to be with your baby, time for yourself, and time for your friends when there's also work." - Louise

"I had to make fewer adjustments, but my husband had to make some compromises as many of his friends had different priorities in life. He had to find a good balance where he supports me equally and also takes care of himself." - Jessica

I've learned that it's okay to incorporate him into my routine as long as I prioritize his needs. For example, if I want coffee and think he'd benefit from a walk, we'll walk for coffee." - Kate
