Our Materials

For the last 40+ years, BIBS has been making pacifiers. As we’ve grown as a brand, we’ve expanded our assortment, now offering a wide range of baby and toddler products in many different materials.

We are very careful in our material choices, and always pick high-quality materials that are durable to ensure a long product lifetime for our products. For safety reasons, our pacifiers need to be replaced every 4-6 weeks. Therefore, we pay extra attention to the fact that our other products stand the test of time and can be used for years without the need for replacement.

All plastic products and components are produced in Denmark in our own production facilities. Read more about our production facilities here >

We are constantly exploring new materials and treatments that are safe, durable, and environmentally friendly. Explore our preferred materials below:

Plastic is an important material for BIBS and will continue to be so in the future. It is one of the basic elements in many of our products because of its great properties. Plastic is strong, durable, light, and versatile. In addition, it is resistant to the growth of bacteria and is easy to clean. Plastic is also a flexible material, which makes it easy to produce products of all sizes and shapes.

There is great (and justified) concern about the impact plastic has on the environment. At BIBS we take this very seriously, and we are constantly working on different initiatives e.g., to reduce our plastic packaging while also making sure that we use recycled plastic when possible.

The most used plastic in our products is PP and plastic-types often referred to as thermoplastic rubbers.

PP stands for ‘Polypropylene’ and is one of the most common types of plastic. PP is a hard, opaque type of plastic that is used across industries and consumer products. PP is FDA-approved for food contact and is free of BPA, PVC, and phthalates. Some of the most significant properties of polypropylene are that it is very resistant to absorbing moisture, has high flexural strength, and possesses good fatigue resistance which means that it can retain its shape after a lot of torsions, bending, and/or flexing. PP is 100% recyclable, but please check your local recycling programs to find out what is recyclable in your area.

Thermoplastic rubbers

The thermoplastics we use are often referred to as thermoplastic rubbers because the material appears rubber-like. This means that it is very elastic, flexible, and smooth to the touch (advantages of rubber), but at the same time, it is extremely durable and strong (advantages of plastic).  They are 100% safe and food-grade without BPA, PVC, and phthalates.

One of the thermoplastics we use is TPU. Some of its benefits are that it consumes less energy to produce, can be colored easily, it is recyclable since it can be molded, extruded, and reused. Please check your local recycling programs to find out what is recyclable in your area.

Glass is the absolute purest material for both food and beverages, as it is 100% safe and emits no harmful substance into its content. The glass type is first-class temperature-resistant borosilicate glass, which is both very durable and extremely heat resistant.

Organic cotton

Our textiles are made of organic cotton. We only work with factories that live up to our ethical standards for working conditions, material processing, and production. All suppliers must live up to our Code of Conduct where it, among others, is specified that all suppliers and sub-contractors must comply with Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) to ensure the environment is not harmed by the production of BIBS’ products.

Natural rubber latex

Our pacifier nipples are made with two different materials: Natural rubber latex and silicone. For our latex nipples, we use 100% natural rubber latex. All our natural rubber latex suppliers are a member of the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR).

Our silicone nipples are made of food-grade silicone. Silicone is an industrially manufactured hypoallergenic, odorless, and taste-neutral material that is known for its purity. It is 100% free of harmful and endocrine-disrupting ingredients such as BPA, PVC, and phthalates.
